Welcome, Madeline Rooney, Content Specialist!

We are so pleased to welcome Madeline Rooney, Content Specialist, to the team! You can learn more about Madeline below.

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?

I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but currently live in Akron, Ohio. With my origin and family roots throughout the South, I am itching to get to someplace warmer.

Where did you go to school?

I attended Bowling Green State University (talons up) where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Technology. While there, I studied Visual Communication Technology and Marketing with a focus on cross-media problem-solving.

How did you get into content? What areas of your field do you like to focus on?

My interest in content all began with a Multimedia class I took in high school. Using technology to manipulate text, graphics, video, animation, and sound really solidified what I wanted to pursue. Studying Visual Communication Technology in my undergrad, I fell in love with website design and development. While I wasn’t going down an engineering path, I knew I wanted to steer towards the web development industry. Within the content and structure of a site, I like to focus on the needs of the product’s end-user. Anything from the words on the screen to the presentation of content. At the end of the day, they are the ones using the product, right?

Do you have a code of ethics or a mantra that you live by when doing content work?

I find that you are able to achieve large things with small steps.

How do our core values (collaboration, initiative, ingenuity) align with your own?

Ever heard of teamwork making the dream work? Collaboration is such a vital tool when working on a cross-functional team. Aligning with my own values, I believe a team can achieve more when they work together. What I love about Buckeye is that we invite our clients to collaborate with us so we can collectively make the best possible product.

For me, initiative and ingenuity relates to growth. A question I ask myself frequently is how can this be improved? Identifying areas for improvement and growth allows for the end product to constantly evolve. Something I know for sure: this world is not stagnant and solutions shouldn’t be either.

What do you want to learn in the next 12 months as a content specialist? What do you want to learn about the web development industry?

When it comes to content, in the next 12 months I want to learn more about the creation and optimization of content to produce the ideal user experience. In the long term, I would love to be able to perform A/B tests and assess site analytics. As for the web development industry, I want to learn more about the management and structure of a website. With technology constantly evolving, there is always a new process, product, or tool.

If you could meet anyone in the world, living or not, who would you like to meet and why?

I would love the chance to meet my mom’s father. Being the only grandparent I haven’t met, I would love to pick his brain on his life experiences and really get to know him.

What is the one thing most people don’t know about you?

Being involved in my high school’s theater program, one year I convinced the director that my character, Miss Andrews from the production of Mary Poppins, should fly 20 feet in the air, with the theatrical rigging system we were renting, as her big exit.
