SEO. A simple acronym but such a complex concept.

What is SEO? Search Engine Optimization is the process of increasing and attracting traffic to your website through organic search engine results.

MOZ.com, an SEO marketing firm, has a great beginner’s guide that explains SEO down to every detail. There are many components within SEO, and MOZ.com goes through each, informing you on what’s most important and how to do it. MOZ writes, “SEO encompasses both the technical and creative elements required to improve rankings, drive traffic, and increase awareness in search engines.” We use MOZ.com to track our SEO progress, specifically our page optimization, our crawler issues, and our rankings for our company but also for our clients.

It’s much easier using an SEO tool like MOZ.com to help manage SEO work because it can get overwhelming at times. But, as the guide says, “SEO isn’t just about building search engine-friendly websites. It’s about making your site better for people, too.” Sure, you want your website to rank well based on Google’s standards. But it’s equally important, if not more, to make your site better for people. What does this mean? Basically, make it readable and understandable. Edit your content, and make sure it makes sense to someone who might not be familiar with your company or your line of work. Refer to MOZ.com’s guide for more insight!

But now a crucial question: why is SEO important?

SEO is important because it helps increase your ranking on search engine results. This means your company will pop up among the top results when customers organically search for something they need that you provide. If your website is viewed as a trusted source by search engines such as Google, you will automatically rank higher in searches.

We know that SEO will help drive traffic to your site and help increase sales and brand awareness. But, to do that, you need to get your site to be on the first page of results. Neil Patel, an SEO guru, says that 75% of people will never scroll past the first page on a Google search. And, we all know that getting your page to the top of the search results is going to take time.

The links that we have provided in this blog give you a ton of great information – information which can be overwhelming. You may be asking yourself, “Do I need to hire a company to do this for me?”

Well, that depends. What are your goals? Do you have the time necessary to devote to lengthy SEO needs? Do you have someone with significant SEO knowledge within your company? You can do it yourself (as you can see, there are plenty of sites out there that tell you how). But, if you want the best results possible, you can hire a company to do it for you, a company like us!

Whether or not you do it yourself or hire someone, we just want to make sure you do something – anything – that is SEO-related. The worst you can do is nothing. It’s all right to jump in, make mistakes, and adjust as you go along.

And, remember, we’re here to help if you need it!
